Packers will not re-sign TE Tyler Davis

The Green Bay Packers will not be re-signing free agent tight end Tyler Davis before the 2025 season, according to reporting from Bill Huber of SI.com.
Davis, 28, has been with the Packers since 2021. Injuries wrecked his last two seasons before they even began. In 2023, Davis tore his ACL during a preseason game and missed the rest of the year. In 2024, he injured his shoulder in training camp and was placed on season-ending injured reserve. Davis hasn’t appeared in a regular season game since early January of 2023.
The decision not to re-sign is hardly a surprise — fringe roster types with a recent history of significant injuries often have a hard time finding work at the pro level.
Davis played in 31 games for the Packers between the 2021 and 2022 seasons. He caught eight passes for 61 yards while playing 295 snaps on offense. More valuably, Davis became a core special teamer, playing 578 snaps for the third phase.
The Packers will move forward with their core group of tight ends, headlined by Tucker Kraft and Luke Musgrave. Backups Ben Sims and John FitzPatrick return, and the Packers have Messiah Swinson and Johnny Lumpkin as developmental options.
Davis signed a one-year deal to return to the Packers in 2024. He is an unrestricted free agent.
Eight of the Packers’ free agents signed elsewhere this offseason. Davis is the last unsigned player, although cornerback Robert Rochell signed with the Kansas City Chiefs and was recently released.
